Its inhabitants participated in critical periods of the island&#8217;s history, showing courage and devotion to the homeland.<\/p>\n<p>During the EOKA liberation struggle (1955-1959) against British colonialism, Lysos played an active role:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Local fighters joined the EOKA guerrilla groups, fighting for the unification of Cyprus with Greece.<\/li>\n<li>The village provided shelter and support to the fighters, as it is strategically located near the Paphos Forest, where there were hideouts.<\/li>\n<li>Important figures from the area contributed to the struggle, while some paid the price for freedom with their lives or imprisonment.<\/li>\n<li>During the Turkish invasion of 1974, many residents of Lysos participated in the defense of Cyprus as reservists of the National Guard.<\/li>\n<li>There were missing and fallen, as well as families affected by the tragic consequences of the invasion.<\/li>\n<li>Lysos, despite the challenges and difficulties of history, kept the flame of Hellenism and Cypriot tradition unextinguished.<\/li>\n<li>The village&#8217;s cultural and national events honor heroes and events of Cypriot history, keeping the memory alive in the new generations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lysos is a village with a patriotic spirit, which has contributed to the national struggles of Cyprus, demonstrating the endurance and dedication of its people to the principles of freedom and justice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Contribution Lysos, like many other Cypriot villages, has made significant contributions to the national history and struggles of Cyprus.
