The forest surrounding the village is mainly covered with pines, cedars, cypresses, invisibles and latzias. In many areas, wild olive trees, schinias, myrtles and shrubs that make up the typical Cypriot Mediterranean flora are also found.
The area is home to wild animals such as foxes, hares, hedgehogs and weasels. It is important to note that in the forest and near the village live the AGRINΑ, the endemic wild sheep of Cyprus.
The sky of Lysos is filled with a variety of birds: hawks, partridges, turtle doves, and many species of migratory birds that find refuge here. The sounds of birds accompany the visitor at every step in the forest.
In the area one can also encounter reptiles, such as lizards, snakes, freshwater crabs, frogs and land turtles. The flora of the area includes rare and endemic plants such as the Cyprus tulip, the orchid Orchis morio and other wild orchids that bloom in spring.
Lysos offers stunning points with panoramic views of the Akamas Sea, the Paphos forest and the surrounding valleys. From the hill “Proseuchi” one can gaze as far as Lara and the Troodos.
The Nature Trail “Lysos – Stavros tis Psokas” passes through the impressive forest and offers unique hiking experiences.
In Lysos, there is a riding farm that organizes horse trails through the forest, passing by streams, clearings and picturesque chapels. These trails are aimed at both beginners and experienced riders.
Spring means colorful rebirth in the village. Rare wildflowers bloom on the edges of the trails and in the fields, such as cyclamen, anemone and rare varieties of wild iris.
